Home & Family ? Blog Archive ? Baby Shower Planning Etiquette

If a couple is expecting their first child, there should be a time for baby shower planning before the actual event happens. The event must be well-planned in order to avoid any problems with the schedules and related costs. With a cautious effort in preparation, everyone can just savor the moment and enjoy the memorable occasion.

Baby shower planning is somehow a challenging thing to do, but it can be attained easily with the right coordination, strategy, and consideration for inexpensive alternatives. In order to have an easy flowing preparation, there are some baby shower planning guidelines that can be followed.

The first thing to do is to pick a host. The mother or sister of the mom-to-be does not usually host the event because it would look like a gift solicitation. Through the years, however, etiquette in this type of event becomes less strict and focused on the mutual happiness of the guests. Today, anyone can help with the event, including the father-to-be and his friends. Likewise, anyone from the family or the couple?s co-workers can host the event so long as they can make the occasion lively.

Afterwards, set the date at a comfortable time of the couple, especially the mom. This kind of party is usually held during the last two months of pregnancy. However, some couples hesitate to have a party before the child is born while some like to postpone the celebration until the baby arrives in the world. It is always important to ask the couple if they would prefer a pre- or post- baby shower party.

Theme selection is also an integral process. A theme can bring a greater sense of festivity; and creativeness is a very important factor to consider. If the couple opt not to have a theme, a simple and bright decor with flowers arrangements is appropriate for the celebration. But decorations should be at the minimum as it may take away the focus from the expectant mother and the baby and eat up a large chunk of the budget.

Invitation-making follows afterwards. With the advent of technology, a phone call can already be a sufficient invitation, but written ones have more impact and can keep up with the value of the event. Invitations should be sent in advance, at least three weeks before the event so guests can make it to the party. The parents-to-be can help in making the guest list to avoid the instance where names are forgotten.

Menu and viand planning comes next. Rich and full-bodied foods would set the right tone for an occasion celebrating the start of a new life. Foods that are easy to prepare and can be eaten by hand should be the only last-minute work to be done during the baby shower. Great examples are cheese-and-vegetable tarts, grilled-chicken salads, homemade pizzas, fruit or green salads.

Lastly, choose a game that suits the theme. The game will serve as a way to educate the mom-to-be or will simply provide entertainment and fun to guests. Having this activity will surely enliven the gathering. Once the organizer finished following the entire baby shower planning guides, the party will definitely become a blast.
