Video Find: Celebrate Canada Day?with a 2013 Nissan Altima Holographic Water Show?

Would you celebrate Canada?s 145th birthday with a giant maple leaf-shaped cake? An all-star hockey game? Nissan commemorated the milestone with a holographic projection of a 2013 Nissan Altima skating over water, hosting 3D water shows in four cities this week. The show used 3D Water Screen Projection technology and treated audiences to a giant hologram of an Altima sedan that drove along the surface of the water, and even dived below at points.

The shows were held on the waterfronts of Canadian cities Halifax, Ottawa, Toronto, and Vancouver. Using a submerged nozzle, the 3D water screen projection process sprays a thin layer of water, which diffuses light and delivers a 3D effect. Nissan claims it is the first company to exhibit the technology in Canada.

In the video, we see a holographic lighthouse rise out of the water to project a 3D Nissan Altima. The phantom car then drives along the water, occasionally disappearing below the surface. After the Altima pulls a few stunts, the lighthouse crashes on top of the car, which emerges from the splash and drives toward the audience to give them a closer look at the larger-than-life Nissan.

Though producing a water show about a giant Nissan Altima may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think about celebrating Canada Day, the show at least showed audiences what this technology can do. Check out the video below.
