If I start paying my property taxes directly to the ... - Finance information

Question by woroguda : If I start paying my property taxes directly to the town can shut the bank escrow my taxes ?
I want to get from under the burden of the higher burden of my monthly escrowed taxes. It would be easier for me to pay in a lump sum once a year. I assume the bank can not charge double for what I?ve already paid and I can force them to remove it. Am I right? Thanks in advance. Best answer:

Your mortgage company gave you a 1/4% rate discount for escrowing taxes and insurance. If you are willing to pay 1/4% higher rate you are welcome to handle the payments yourself. Of course, this will require refinancing and qualifying for a new loan at prevailing market rates.
